Evaluation activities in Spain
EWF organized evaluation activities in Madrid (Spain) targeting 7 professionals at CESOL Association Española de Soldadura y Tecnologías de Unión. CESOL is the ANB Authorised National Body of EWF in Spain, reaching a large network of companies and individuals. Pen drives were given to the participants in order to ensure direct access to siLang serious game, learning sheets and user guide. The evaluation group consisted of: 3 engineers from Technical Department, 1 ICT technician and 3 administrative employees.
Briefly, the siLang serious game was well received by all the participants in siLang evaluation activities. All the involved users stressed the fact that the game has a strong educational orientation while remaining challenging and entertaining.
The participants in the study understood the idea underpinning the project. More precisely, according to their perception the game addresses real-life challenges that one can face when interacting in international professional settings. The game elements and the design of the interface received also positive comments. The role that the scenario of the game played was also highlighted; according to the participants the scenario of the game is engaging, allowing narrative immersion to occur.
The overall impression of the game was very positive. siLang serious game was considered as an appealing game that provides space to users with basic skills in English to practice communication in cultural contexts and explore the diverging use of lingua franca. They also expressed the opinion that additional groups of users (such as teenagers and young people) can be benefitted by their exposure to the siLang serious game especially if they are making their first steps in international environments.
