Evaluation Methodology
The siLang evaluation methodology aims to introduce a comprehensive framework through which a meaningful conclusion can be reached on how effectively siLang outcomes meet their objective of enhancing language and communication skills among professionals in the context of work collaboration. siLang aims to have a positive impact on the development of professional soft skills related to communication. The following are learning objectives of siLang communicative, situated educational methodologies that are enhanced by gaming technology:
- Awareness on the cultural richness of European languages
- Ability to communicate effectively in an open, international, and cultur-ally rich business environment; this includes:
- Ability to effectively interact with peers with diverse cultural backgrounds that inevitably introduce language transfer effects into communication
- Ability to adapt to and operate effectively in business contexts in a cultural environment that differs from one’s own
- Enhanced language skills in a lingua franca
While the proposed siLang situated learning methodology is applicable towards building communication skills in any lingua franca, the methodology will be validated in the context of the siLang project for using English in a business environment. However, outcomes and evaluation results will enable the drawing of conclusions for the broad use of situated, game-based learning towards building communication skills.
