Evaluation activities in Romania
The EWF performed evaluation activities on the siLang game-based learning methodologies in additional countries, namely in Romania and Spain. The activities in Romania are summarized below.
Evaluation in Romania was held in Timisoara, at ISIM on 26 November 2014 involving 20 participants. The participants were male adults, technicians in the welding and joining area, employees of ISIM.
The project objectives and rationale were presented to the participants in the study. The basic features of the siLang serious game were also demonstrated. A pen drive with the siLang serious game, the learning sheets, and the application reference manual was distributed to all the participants.
The participants were very interested in working on siLang serious game and providing their feedback and suggestions for improvements. Based on their statements this was a valuable learning experience as they rarely have the chance to receive training in an innovative and playful way.
The group succeeded to reach Chapter 3. Specifically, the students commented positively on the good design of the graphical interface as well as on the fact that the siLang serious game is free and publicly available online. Additional suggestions included enriching the post-it notes with additional explanations. They were also interested in an extended version of the game where a Romanian character will be also available. Finally, they suggested the extension of the current version of the game in order to include more professional environments and job roles.
The feedback that was generated is in-line with what the siLang consortium plans as continuation for the project. The siLang scenario has been designed to focus on professional activities that have broad applicability in industry, such as participation in an interview process, participation in a business meeting, and more. The consortium already considers follow up work with additional focus on specific needs of specific industry sectors that demonstrate high worker mobility or in which international collaboration is common, such as HoReCa (hotels, restaurants, and cafes), the health sector, engineering fields, and more.
